In ancient times, perfume was regarded as a luxury and must be contained in expensive containers, so a variety of containers came into being. Terracotta jars unearthed from Egyptian tombs dating back to 2000 BC are richly decorated. Delicate perfume containers have also been found in Cyprus and Greece. Chinese people use jade or agate to make priceless perfume bottles. Although glass containers containing perfume were found in ancient tombs in Egypt, and benihassan murals depicting the method of blowing glass bottles in various periods were found near Thebes, at that time, only the ancient Romans could be called the most skillful glassmakers. In addition to using molds to make glass bottles, they also developed glassware using blowpipes, which was used throughout the Roman Empire. In the dark period of the Middle Ages in Europe after the collapse of the Roman Empire in the fifth century, many unique skills, including layer carving, were lost. The Venetians discovered that manganese dioxide could be used as a decolorizing agent, and then they invented inlaying gold and silver silk and colored glaze on glassware. By the sixteenth century, the art was perfect. In the second half of the 15th century, a crystal similar to crystal was invented, that is, transparent and white glass. Later, opaque white glass was invented. During this period, various beautifully decorated perfume bottles were made, reflecting the brilliant colors of Italian art in the Renaissance.
In 1880, the invention of blowing bottles by machine and the use of frosted plugs instead of corks. Around this time Leopold Frank built a small workshop for making perfume sprayers. Later, his son Marcel first made a perfume sprayer that could be installed on a beautiful crystal perfume bottle.
